SIRE - Houston Therapeutic Riding Center

:: client info ::

In order to provide the best therapeutic benefit and the safest environment to our clients, SIRE has established some minimal guidelines for acceptance into the SIRE program. First, it is preferred that clients be at least 3 years of age. SIRE will accept clients as young as 30 months if the client exhibits head control and emerging trunk control. Secondly, clients who ride independently must weigh no more than 200 lbs., and a client who requires a backrider must weigh no more than 75 lbs.

SIRE offers classes in 12 week sessions each fall and spring, with a s week summer session. Clients ride once per week, usually for 30 to 45 minutes. Tuition for a 14 week session of Developmental or Riding skills classes is $490 and may be paid either in full or in three monthly installments. Reduced tuition is readily available for those unable to pay full tuition. Contact the SIRE office by telephone, fax or email to obtain an enrollment packet, or click here to download it. Then print a copy and mail or fax the completed forms, with signatures, to SIRE. The client’s physician will need to complete the Medical History and sign the Physician Release.

Once the registration forms and the enrollment fee are received, you will be contacted to set up an appointment for SIRE’s staff therapist to evaluate the client. Please review the list of contraindications in the packet. If the client has one or more of these conditions, therapeutic riding may not be recommended. The therapist will not approve the client’s enrollment, and the enrollment fee is not refundable. Please all if you have any questions concerning these contraindications, or about the registration process.

Finally, upon completion of the evaluation, the client will be assigned a riding time or placed on a waiting list. If it becomes necessary to place a client on a waiting list, you will be contacted when a riding time becomes available.
