Volunteers are the lifeblood of SIREVolunteers are the lifeblood of SIRE. Without them, the successful accomplishment of our mission would not be possible. In 2007, for example, volunteers donated more than 23,000 hours of service to SIRE client riders. This is equivalent to 11 full time employees working for the entire year!

Volunteers assist our clients in a variety of ways, both inside and outside the riding arena. In the arena, volunteers are side-walkers (providing physical and verbal support), horse leaders (assuring the safe horse handling during class), DHPs — Designated Horse Person (tacking and grooming horses for class), and Daily Coordinators (who assist in managing the volunteer scheduling for a block of classes).

Outside the arena, volunteers fill many important roles including, but not limited to, administrative and computer functions, telephone committees, board membership, committee membership, assistance with fund raising activities and events, and many, many more functions.
